Migrant woman

• Who is in this picture? How do you think they are related? What do you see in the picture that gives you clues?
• How would you describe the woman's expression?
• What does the woman's gesture tell you about how she is feeling?
• Do you think Lange posed the two older children to face away from the camera? If you think she did, why would she have done this?
• How do you think the public responded to this photograph when it was published in a newspaper?
• Years later, Florence Owens Thompson did not want this picture published anymore because she felt it labeled her as "poor" when she no longer was. If it had been up to you, would you have honored her request? If a subject agrees to be photographed, should they be able to control how the photo is later used?

  • A mother and her four and six year old boys. The children's perch on the mothers shoulder show a mother son relationship
  • The women's expression is pained but determined. She has been through hell and back but knows she must keep going
  • Her hand on her chin shows she is viewing something difficult watch because our hands go to our face when we are uncomfortable.
  • I think that she did pose them, either to show how exhausted they are from their journey and hat they are ready to give up, or because there is an atrocious scene going on, like a beating, and the children cant bear to watch.
  • The public probably felt connected to this women, her pain is universally felt by all those who view this photo.
  • Always, without a doubt a person should have the choice to deny the way they are portrayed by someone else.

Surrealist Design

This assignments is any creative artists dream: to make any photo, scenario or landscape as crazy and weird as you can think up, also known as surrealism.

Since I am obsessed with football right now, I chose to show the danger of the game in this hellish swamp scene where a receiver goes out for the pass...and never comes back...

Goals for this Semester and about me

1. One thing that inspires me is wildlife. In particular predators. The essence of wilderness and the thrill of the hunt for me makes the for the best photograph's because the stakes are the highest: life or death. A mountain lion bounding after a terrified rabbit in the snowy colorado rocky mountains, is one of my favorite photos that shows there is still a portion of America that is mysterious, untamed and untainted from man.

2.  There is no one aspect of a photo that i necessarily look for. However i am attracted to unusual content such as the tank man photo, that isn't necessarily the most clear or vivid photo yet its message is so powerful that it has gained notoriety. Another attraction to me is a beautiful contrast of colors, or lighting, when a photo just pops, its an easy attention grabber.

3/4. The message I would like to display in my work would be to firstly show a correlation between my pictures and my emotions, and secondly i want to emphasize the beauty of nature and its importance and need for salvation. I have no experience with photoshop however so i am eager to learn the tricks to enhance my photography.
